Testing oil papers

‘Headland Clouds’…a little oil painting on paper with limited colours. I am trying out different oil papers this week and this one is a Zieler A5 300gsm. It has a linen textured surface. I decided a landscape would suit my mood. Using a large knife, a silicone scraper and a roller the composition and contrasts eventually came together. The tape came away nicely from the sides without tearing. Satisfied with the test.

‘Nothing but silence’…a quiet interlude. The paper is Daler-Rowney Georgian A4 290gsm with a linen canvas finish. It has a smooth slightly textured feeling and gives gentle marks when the oils are gently smoothed with a silicone scraper. No dramatic marks were wanted in this serene landscape, just a peaceful place to rest my eye. Green is just right.
